Or, they'll just be part of "Manifest Destruction" and migrate to a place like Detroit

Back in 2009 the Detroit News published a story that should give any thinking person reason for concern, especially considering the 2012 story of the Milwaukee Police Department under-reporting crime in a bid to make the city appear safer. The Detroit Police Department is systematically undercounting homicides, leading to a falsely low murder rate in a city that regularly ranks among the nation's deadliest, a Detroit News review of police and medical examiner records shows. 

The police department incorrectly reclassified 22 of its 368 slayings last year as "justifiable" and did not report them as homicides to the FBI as required by federal guidelines. There were at least 59 such omissions over the past five years, according to incomplete records obtained from the police department through the Freedom of Information Act.

What is more, records show Detroit police officers killed 10 civilians last year, a five-fold increase from 2007. That makes the Detroit department one of the most deadly in America even as it operates under federal supervision, for among other things, the use of lethal force and the illegal detention of witnesses.

Adjusting Detroit's number to 368 homicides pushes the city's rate to 40.7 per 100,000 residents, past the previously reported rate of 33.8 and well ahead of Baltimore's 36.9. It makes Detroit once again the Murder Capital of cities with more than 500,000 residents.

So Detroit - with a population that is 90 percent Black (a fact few dare mention in polite company when discussing the woeful circumstances that have befallen the city) - has a police department that shuffled around the crime statistics, hoping to make the city appear just a smidgen less safe then it actually is. After all, sharing is caring and allowing Baltimore the honor of hoisting the hotly contested, intensely coveted "Murder Capital of America" trophy for a year was a nice gesture by the DPD.

But the city government and the citizens of Detroit are already heavily subsidized by the federal and state government, and with embarrassingly low tax-revenues collected from the populace, any tax increases to support the hiring of more police won't guarantee less crime.

Or, because of inherent corruption among the virtually all-black city employees, that the money would be spent properly.  The property tax liability on homeowners in Detroit is already the highest in all of Michigan, but when you average home value hovers around $7,000 (the median price in 2009) you aren't looking at that high of a millage rate.

Back in August of 2012, Detroit's police took a 10 percent pay cut in a foolish bid to dramatically reduce the city budget and stave off a takeover by the state of Michigan. A plot seemingly copied verbatim from the script of Robocop, the dying city of Detroit now stands on the verge of total anarchy.

Unlike the movie, the violence in the real Detroit is the handiwork of a cast that is almost 100 percent black. Though, remaining loyal to the ruling ideology that holds the entire western world in a vise to the bitter end, the Detroit Police Department recently held a rally to warn citizens attending a baseball game that the city was a "No Man's Land." The men and women of the Detroit Police Department believe the city is too dangerous to enter, and they want citizens to know it.

Detroit Police Officer Association (DPOA) Attorney Donato Iorio said officers are holding the “Enter At Your Own Risk” rally at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in front of Comerica Park to remind the public that the officers are overworked, understaffed, and at times, fearful for their lives.

“Detroit is America’s most violent city, its homicide rate is the highest in the country and yet the Detroit Police Department is grossly understaffed,” Iorio told WWJ’s Kathryn Larson. “The DPOA believes that there is a war in Detroit, but there should be a war on crime, not a war on its officers.”

Iorio says the once 2,000 strong force is shrinking rapidly; since the start of summer, hundreds of officers have left the department.

“These are the men and women who we look to protect us… and police officers can’t protect you if they’re not there. Officers are leaving simply because they can’t afford to stay in Detroit and work 12 hour shifts for what they are getting paid… These police officers are beyond demoralized, these officers are leaving hand over fist because they can no longer afford to stay on the department and protect the public,” he said.

And that’s why Iorio cautions those who enter the city to be wary.

 The last chance for Detroit was the usage of a special police force known as S.T.R.E.S.S - Stop the robberies, enjoy safe streets. But because it is primarily black people who commit crimes (petty or violent, it doesn't matter), this special police unit targeted black people in a futile attempt to live up to their awesome acronym.

But Coleman Young - who once said he was a black first, a Democrat second - ran for mayor of Detroit on the platform of ending S.T.R.E.S.S. since this highly effective unit dared tried and keep the Motor City safe from high rates of black crime.

Kathryn Larson's CBS Detroit story is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Coleman Young, a city that the police - though it is largely a tactic designed to pressure the city into restoring lost salary - correctly state is one that should be entered without liability to them.

The one line from Robocop that captured the essence of the whole film was when Peter Weller's "Murphy" character has just transferred into Detroit, and he has asked incredulously why he requested transfer to the most dangerous precinct in the city:

Manson: Where are you from?
Murphy: Metro South.
Manson: Welcome to hell. 

Abandon all hope... or something like right? Well, American Exceptionalism, that Shining City on a Hill is wonderfully on display in 2012 Detroit.

Isn't it?

The lessons of 2012 Detroit represent an eraser that can wipe away the dry erase-board that is the last 60 years of history; this is precisely the reason the state once actively opposed such delusions as "equality" and "freedom" for certain segments of society, with men holding the reigns of a republic that knew you don't base social policy on individuals.

Watching truTV's Hardcore Pawn, the underlying message should be that we pawned away liberty and freedom for security from the fear of the type of black riots - like that in 1967 in Detroit - that illustrated the fragility of a multi-racial society.
